White and Bright

White space with a hint of brights….that’s what I’m dreaming about. I have a new (old) couch, because the one I was kindly lent had to return to its true home, I plan on re-covering my new (old) couch and I would preferably love it to be white with lots of pretty cushions. I fear if I do this however it will be not-so-white in time. What are your thoughts, is a white couch really so impractical?

1. Quilt and lamp, 2. Pillows with bird, 3. empty closet, summer bags, 4. Utility Room

We had an off white sofa which survived 15 years with 2 boys - they key is washability I think.

i have an off-white sofa as well - it is microfiber and the cushion covers zip off to be washed. i don't have kids or pets, but i do have people sit on it while they eat pretty often, and have never had a problem i couldn't just wash out :)

it looks like this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/thelulubird/1351638032/in/set-72157602080031702/

Ahh we had this dilemma too. In the end we went for cream leather. The white leather looked too stark and uninviting to sit on. Even with cushions. A white fabric (rather than leather) would probably be far more inviting.

I can certainly vouch for micro suede fabric in that it's easy to clean, that said I had a pretty dark couch.

Good luck!

I love white upholstery and carpet but with Molly dog we do get paw prints over everything. My last couch cover was cream and did get a little grotty but if you can machine wash it that's great. My new cover which is nice and light with a floral pattern will hide marks better I think. Cushions also hide marks when placed just right!

gosh - kee is such a clumsy man - i dont think white is ever an option for a sofa. we barely manage white sheets but we do have an awesome washing machine that gets anything out so i think if you have something that is washable AND a great machine - go for it. we're in the sofa dilemma at the moment.....need a new one but need a pot of gold too!

Hello Catherine! I am just about to purchase 2 small white armchairs for our study/snug...I love the idea of a white sofa and colourful cushions but the two woofs spend a lot of time on ours so, even with washable covers, it wouldn't be a viable option for me..however, if I were you, I would totally go for it :)

Love the idea but white can be tricky unless you a. are very neat and tidy b. don't have pets and c. have washable covers. if you can tick all these boxes I say go for it also! I am always drooling over lovely photos in design magazines of white rooms but don't think I would manage to pull it off!

we have a white couch and a two year old (it's from ikea) the slip covers come off and can be washed - so not really a drama - go for it!

I love white spaces with splashes of color just like you do. We just did a repaint of our first floor (although in creme since it already was to keep it easy) and it just lifts the space.

I love the look of a white couch but it's not practical for us with our dog and kiddo. It would just stress me out major. You'll have to tell us what you decide!

oh gosh, i am so flattered to see my photo included here! i love the others in the set too. thank you for including mine. i have a white couch and two small children. it works because i can remove the cushion covers and throw them in the wash.

just don't invite me around for a glass of red wine... Sounds gorgeous otherwise :)
