I love these posters from Les Zigouis, I keep coming back to them because they are so cheerful and sweet, I think this one is my particular favourite though.

I have been cooking quite a lot lately, more for myself than for Island Menu, not because I don't want to but because at this time of year the light goes so quickly which makes it impossible to photograph dinners, quite frustrating!
Anyway for my birthday a few weeks back I got a copy of Rachel Khoo's Little Paris Kitchen, then of course had to watch the tv series, and I loved it and felt rather inspired again. We cooked her beouf bourguinon for mother's day (along with Heston Blumenthal's thrice cooked chips and churros for desert) and it worked so well. There are quite a few other recipes I want to try but these cheesy potato nests look amazing!! (suspect they would require a run afterwards!)

A few shots from the weekend:
* cooking for Island Menu - finally again, I know we've been slack but I think we are getting there!
* enjoying the sunshine in my little flat, I've been so cold all weekend, I don't know why it wasn't even that bad, but the sunshine was most welcome;
* some amazingly tall tulips from my aunt and uncle's farm - they've been like that since thursday, all nice and tightly closed,
* I tried to practice with the piping bag on my cake but the icing wasn't quite the right consistency and I picked too big a nozzle, so I just swirled it around instead. Everything is better with sprinkles.

I realise I am easily distracted, I took these shots on Saturday in the midst of trying to cook bechemel sauce for a lasagne...possibly not ideal timing, but the light was just about to go and I liked the way they looked strewn across the table. Oh and the lasagne did turn out ok thankfully. The weekend was a nice one, an enjoyable Indian dinner, Beastie Boys blasting on saturday morning for MCA (so very sad), getting through chores I've had for ages like taking a massive pile of magazines to the recycling shop, and watching movies like Barney's Version and How to Lose Friends and Alienate People.

A few random shots from the weekend, friday last week was my birthday, I thought it was going to be a hard one to swallow after celebrating last year’s in Paris, but actually I had a really great time, I’m feeling pretty happy about life these days. We had paella and mojito’s for dinner with friends, and I made myself a cake (I love making cakes!) and a fluro pink piñata, which was absolutely impossible to photograph (given the colour) but did get a good beating later in the evening. Plus I can't believe it is may already....!
