Marshmallow-schmallow

A few pictures from my marshmallow adventures on the weekend…I think perhaps I should have spent more time concentrating on the cooking part than the photography part. I used the Hugh Fearnley–Whittingstall recipe with beetroot for natural colour. Anyway they didn’t turn out perfectly hence the lack of after photographs, but it was fun all the same.

mmm gorgeous photos and I am sooo inpressed that you tried to make marshmallows. I'm mostly vegetarian so i try not to use gelatin. Did they taste nice?

I haven't made marshmallows before, so this looks like an interesting mixture! The pictures are really beautifully done!

If you're interested, I've had great success with this recipe: http://www.foodbeam.com/2008/05/26/comme-si-toutes-les-gouttes-de-pluie-avaient-decide-de-shabiller-en-robe-de-mariee-chamallows-maison-a-la-vanille/

Like Jac says, I'm vegetarian too and when I read about how gelatin was made I struggled to eat anymore! That said the recipe was fab and my marshmallows were perfect.

The key was gelatin sheets, rather than powder.

My sister makes good marshmallows but I'm not sure what recipe she uses. The bestroot for colouring is an interesting idea.
Oh well ,ver mind about the end results - the ics are great! Have a lovely weekend.
ps the Barn market is on Sat the 5th. Worth a visit if you are out and about! I'm working in the gallery but dare say I'll stick my head in the barn for a little look see!

Hi again Catherine, thanks for your comment. Just so you know, the market is on June the 5th, so not tomorrow, the following weekend. I think Masonic one is also on that weekend :)

I paused at the first photo and thought to myself - WHAT is she going to make with this strange collection of ingredients?! Marshmallows..mmm. Never made my own, I'd love to give it a try! Do you have pics of the finished product?
