Happy Weekend

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend, mine is four days long and I'm so pleased! I've spent today rescuing my 20+ year old billy bookcase from collapse, the poor thing had far too much weight and it wasn't helped at all by my flats wonky floor! So I'm having a bit of a storage crisis at the moment, does anyone have any good rental storage suggestions? There are no in-built cupboards at all and no room for more furniture....

Hmm, I don't think I have any bright ideas but I actually like stacks of books about the place. Mine are still all in storage until I get my shevles finished. I have many of the same books as you!
Have a great long weekend!

Poor Billy :) You have some lovely books in your collection I'd love to own - is the Martha Stewart Encyclopedia a good one? Not sure about rental storage solutions but I like Sarah's suggestion of having stacks of books around. Enjoy your 'long weekend' x

Hi Catherine, the poor bookcases cop a hammering don't they? I never realize the strain they are under until it's too late! When there is no room for more furniture I would add floating shelves vertically up the wall. Your stacks do look cute tho!

Sorry i have no rental suggestions but i have the same problem and have been looking at getting some old wooden fruit boxes and fixing them to the wall to hold little piles of books around the house.

Happy weekend :)

hey, my weekend is 4 days too - yay! I put things like spare doonas and blankets under the bed in thick, clear plastic zip up bags and that frees up cupboards. Old suitcases would do the same. I also saw a really cool bookshelve somewhere recently made from 4 chains, suspending old hardcover books with holes drilled through them as the shelves, for a narrow wall space...

I like the books stacked :) I don't know about rentals but how about finding some wooden crates and stacking them around each other - that would look good!

4 days long, lucky you! I agree with Sarah, if you have the space I like the way stacks of books look, as long as you won't be tripping over them! Enjoy your (long) weekend!

Happy Australia Day for yesterday. Hope you had a nice long weekend.
I have a similar problem with my ever growing magazine collection. I love the look of books and magazines artfully stacked around but i think they'd annoyed me after a while.

how about two ladders with planks laid out so they cover a step on each ladder? apple crates seem to be quite hard to find these days! we have a similar issue but we have been lucky - our carpenter friend gave us this awesome old 50's kitchenette cupboard which we took the doors off and use as shelves and our other friend made us a long plank/stool which we put books ontop of and stack magazines under. the dust/vaccum thang gets annoying with books on the floor!

I really liked the look of the stacked books as well - esp. when it looks purposed like this. If you have any window sills that are deeper you could line them up there, although this really only works for smaller ones and there is an issue with sunlight.
