this weekend

There has been lots lately that I have intended to blog about, what I've been reading (Party Girls Die in Pearls, Round to Ours), watching (Versailles, Suits, Madame), and listening to (The National, Mac Demarco - but not the most recent one) but because I've been doing all that, fighting off a virus, parenting a two year old who had the flu (and who is two - challenging time), and working, and everything else that has to be done, it hasn't happened. And I'm sad about that. I want to write this stuff down, mostly for my self, because I enjoy doing this.

This weekend we took Elroy to the snow on the mountain for the very first time, on the day he turned two and a half. He wasn't super keen on it to start, there was a fair bit of grizzling and "I need a cuddle" (which means he wants to be carried), but after a while he really got into it and enjoyed climbing over rocks and exploring, growling like rock dinosaurs (whatever they are).

We also started to put some pictures up on the rather bare white walls at home (starting with Elroy's room). We have been back in the house for about three months now and I have been feeling immobile with indecision about how I want to approach the decorating part. Elroy's room was easy, but I am genuinely stuck with what to put up on the bare wall behind our dining table, we already have lots of pieces but none of them feel quite right. It might be a case of get something up for now, and in time (and when the budget allows) find something new. I wish I could afford an interior designer to make these decisions for me! Not ever going to happen.

My kinda sunday

Yesterday was my ideal kinda sunday, for once I didn't get up to go for a run or go to the farmer's market, instead lounged around for a bit watching iview on the ipad, then baked banana muffins, did some house cleaning and tidying, had a muffin break and read my new book,  played with Jerry and then went out for a drive to see Matt in a mountain bike race. It was just one of those days where there was no rush or hurry to get things done and I felt happy just being home.

This Weekend

We had a three day weekend this weekend, which was wonderful and meant that last week was only a two day working week (ideal!). The reason for the extra day was to go to Launceston for friday night to see Robert Plant. He was incredibly impressive and I have to say I think I rather liked his own pieces better than the Led Zeppelin songs (mostly because these had been re-arraged, for example Whole Lotta Love did not have that wraaaaaaang guitar in it at all). So good to go to a nice loud rock and roll concert every now and again, not to mention someone who is of that calibre.

On saturday we had a wander around the town, brought some records, and I saw a cushion with a lovely pom pom on it that I'm really regretting not buying. The rest of the weekend has been home based, we're still clearing up things that haven't been organised since I moved in and it's finally coming together.

Pics are a bit random for this post but I really liked the colours together. The pumpkin is from the farmer's market and was the most unusual colour.

The Weekend - Yeah

This weekend there was actually crafting (about time! and I enjoyed it a lot), a nice dinner out, the obligatory trip to Bunnings (they seem to be more frequent these days, I must be getting old), and dahlia's from the farmer's market.

Only four work days this week and then a break, I can't wait! I think we are going to finally paint the bedroom, currently it's a lemon yellow with hideous blue trim on the window frames but it will be antique white. Hopefully I'll be able to take some pictures to share.

The grey long weekend

So last weekend was a long one, which was definitely needed, but it was grey and misty wet, and after all the sun and heat we've had, a bit of a shock to the system. But we made the most of it, headed out to Mona market (I was secretly after some pottery this time around, but probably luckily they weren't there), in the evening we had a wedding/not-wedding (they were already married) at Ethos with lovely food which was fun. I was a teeny bit hungover on sunday so we took a drive south down to Dover, it is very pretty down there, even the wharf is photogenic. Monday was a lazy day, I baked a chocolate cake for no reason whatsoever, which is generally the best reason.

This Weekend

Somehow February arrived already! Last week was quite busy at work and I felt rather mentally drained and worn out so I needed a good relaxing weekend and it has been exactly that. I went to salamanca market for poppies (still really loving them) and blueberries, spent some time on the couch flicking through mags (the new world of interiors has the home of the owners of Toast - it's pretty cool), did some baking and listened to Bat for Lashes/Alt-J/Coconut Records, went to the gym and for a run, and picked the first of my big tomatoes. All very much needed.

This weekend

Friday was the hottest day Hobart's seen, and I watched the fire trucks leaving the city from my poorly air conditioned office and felt a bit sick. The bushfires are disturbing and unsettling and while I like it warm 42 is too much for me. So we had a simple nice dinner of bbq prawns and mojitos and then on saturday morning took Jerry to the beach for some cool air. We also visited the mona market for the second week running (Ridgeline Pottery you will be my downfall!) and then today has been the quietest day at home. I think that's a good thing.

This Weekend.....

......strawberries, peonies, good treats from the farmers market and a wee bit of christmas decorating, not to mention the fact that the weather has been pretty amazing. This year I am hanging out for the break, because the weekends seem to go far too quickly!

Happy Friday

woo hoo today is the last friday in winter and I am so pleased! I think this weekend is going to be a good one, I've got plans to go see Moonrise Kingdom (I looove Wes Anderson films and can't believe Australia had to wait so long for this one), out for dinner, maybe some baking and definitely some picture taking.

Hope you have a good weekend too.

ps the cake is from my mum's birthday last friday, I baked Stephanie Alexanders sponge and filled it with strawberries, jam and cream....not too shabby!

This weekend...

...has gone way too fast for my liking, they seem to be doing that a lot lately! The weather has still been pretty blah still but I've seen lots of blossom around, there's been some cooking (for Island Menu! should be up later this week), a bit of house cleaning, and walking Jerry Springer Spaniel. I think I'm ready for next weekend already!

This Weekend...

...early blossom, and the arrival of Jerry Springer Spaniel. Very, very sweet.

Saturday breakfast

I love weekend breakfasts, it's nice not to have to rush them and you can spend time doing other things before you sit down at the table, also there's no work to go to. I'm generally a fan of eggs, pancakes and porridge but recently Kate of Full of Grace very kindly sent me a package of her organic ginger granola to try, so that was on the menu yesterday! We had it with some rhubarb compote I made and it was a really lovely combination.

Snowy Easter Break

I spent the easter break at a friends place up in the Tasmanian highlands, so nice to get away and just take it very easy, the most exciting part though was waking up to snow yesterday morning!

PS it was my friend's 30th birthday so I got a massive balloon and decked it out with tissue paper tassels, I made a cake too - it will be up on Island Menu this week.

This Weekend...

This weekend has been hot, hot, really too hot for me, but despite the heat it has been a great weekend. A good mail day on friday (the new 3191Q), mona market on saturday, Qbert and Reeps One (awesome scratch DJ and beat boxer) on saturday night, Island Menu work today and dinner at the beach to check out the slightly off-putting bushfire sunset. I'm not ready to go back to work tomorrow!

Market

I went to Salamanca market for the first time in absolutely ages yesterday, mostly I was after some tulips but they didn't have any so I got snap dragons instead. I would have loved the poppies but they just make me a bit hayfeverish.

The exciting find was zucchini flowers! I had some in Melbourne many years ago and they were fantastic and I have wanted to re-create that ever since. I did get some flowers from a friend last weekend but was lazy and left them out and they went all limp. So tonight I cooked them properly, stuffed with goats cheese, ricotta, basil and fresh grated nutmeg and a light tempura batter, and I was pleased with the way they turned out, nearly the same as my memory.

Lately...

....life has been about the Mona Foma festival, hence the silence here, four nights of great music: Girl Talk, the Dresden Dolls, Amiina, a rendition of the Violent Femmes first album, and stunningly PJ Harvey last night.

Oh and the Mona Market yesterday too which I thought was really great (I got some of Michelle's wonderful strawberry and pimm's jam - which was perfect on my blueberry pancakes this morning and a lovely cheery bunch of dahlia's!). So I am a little tired and weary today and have spent it soaking up the sun because it has been a perfect blue sky day. Posting should be better this week...well that is the plan!

This Weekend

This weekend was a pretty quiet one which is never a bad thing. I went to Salamanca market for the first time in ages, got some amazing fresh blueberries and some white chrysanthemums and rather unfortunately saw an antique throw from Afghanistan that I can’t stop thinking about.....very bad! It was a silk thread one with some lovely muted pinky/browns and stronger pinks in the design, but it’s sadly not in the budget right now.
