Cookbooks are definitely my weakness, above are just a few that I've either been given or brought recently (and there are a few others on my list right now too!) but the thing is, I look through these books but I haven't cooked much from the yet. I was going to challenge myself to make one new dish from the books I already have every sunday, but this year for sundays we've been to my parents for dinner, I've been sick and then we had David Byrne.....so it hasn't happened. I figure I should just relax the rules and just cook something new any night that feels right. The aim is to take a picture and post about them here too, that probably won't be every week but it should be a nice challenge.

A place I'd like to visit....
Brook Farm General Store in Brooklyn looks amazing, I think I would very possibly loose all self control in a place like this. One day I'll hopefully get there, New York and Brooklyn that is.
This week seems to be going incredibly fast and I didn't take any photographs on the weekend at all, which was not the plan. But I was tired and have a bit of a cold and lingering sinus head. We did head off to ethos for lunch which was interesting and rather excitingly saw David Byrne and St Vincent on sunday at Mona Foma, both were incredible. Tonight it's Elvis Costello, can't wait!

2. one of my amazing christmas presents a bag from Castle, it says 'there is enough love and sunshine for everyone', I like that. It's sitting on the little couch in our bedroom so I can admire it.
3. a few weeks ago I had my first ever pedicure, it was pretty darn good and I don't know why I waited so long to try one out.

double poppy
This weekend I went to Salamanca market for flowers for the first time in a few months, over christmas I was buying peonies from the farmers market and they were so lovely, but sadly only have a short availability time. So it was back to the market, I was looking for tulips but came home with poppies instead. They are so pretty, particularly this double one which is beautiful peach and orange. I hadn't seen a double before.

This weekend
Friday was the hottest day Hobart's seen, and I watched the fire trucks leaving the city from my poorly air conditioned office and felt a bit sick. The bushfires are disturbing and unsettling and while I like it warm 42 is too much for me. So we had a simple nice dinner of bbq prawns and mojitos and then on saturday morning took Jerry to the beach for some cool air. We also visited the mona market for the second week running (Ridgeline Pottery you will be my downfall!) and then today has been the quietest day at home. I think that's a good thing.

Carrot Cake
I haven't baked much lately, and that's been good because I really don't need to eat that stuff! But I'd had a little voice in my ear going on about a certain Donna Hay carrot cake that we made a few months earlier and that maybe it might be nice for the new year. So I caved in and made it, it's really moist and light, the icing is kinda whipped (not heavy) and caramelised pecans on top are the bomb.

Hello 2013
Happy new year!!! I had thought I might write a post yesterday, you know a bit of a wrap up of the year but then the words didn't really come to me. I don't think that matters too much and we had a really lovely dinner last night at a nearby french restaurant, complete with party hats and whistles, then walked home laughing to watch the fireworks. We've had some lazy days at home lately and it's been wonderful (above are some shots from around the house) and I'm kinda dreading reality of work again tomorrow.
I do plan to blog more this year, take more photo's and excitingly craft more. I was lucky enough to get an iPad for Christmas and thought that would help me but blogger doesn't seem to like it much, any hints or tips?
