Belated

I started making myself a calendar… ok so it is pretty much the end of January already but what does that matter. I found an envelop full of magazine cut-outs I’d done years ago for collages and now my kitchen table is littered with them, maybe I will be finished by March ; )

Little Finches Can Play Guitar

At lunch today I finally got to see the Celeste Boursier-Mougenot installation From Here to Ear. I’ve been meaning to go for ages after hearing everyone talk about it and today it seemed the nicest way to spend a lunch hour.

It is ingenious, lots of beautiful finches and electric Gibson Les Paul guitars amplified in a loft space. When you walk around the little finches fly and land on the guitars, plucking the strings and making some great sounds. It is an amazing work and the birds are wonderful.

(fyi the birds were checked by the rspca to see if they were ok with it – I needed to know that)

Australia Day Weekend

We celebrated the Australia Day long-weekend in typically Aussie style. We went with eight friends to stay in a little shack complete with corrugated iron bathroom, in the far south east of Tasmania.

We went out on the boats, fished, played beach cricket, walked, went swimming, kayaked, played board games, had a few drinks and ate freshly caught fish and abalone (mmmm). It was brilliant to be out in the fresh air, and that view……. to me there is something amazing about looking out onto the ocean and knowing that there is nothing but more sea until you hit Antarctica.

I realised too that I need to get a polarizing filter for my camera so that I can properly capture the amazing turquoise colour of the water! It’s dreamy – sadly absolutely freezing for swimming in : )

Two Things

Today two of my favourite things pom poms and dahlias (cause I could do with a little cheering up).

We got the dahlias from a little roadside stall after a squid fishing trip (highly unsuccessful but lots of fun!).
The mini pom poms were made to brighten up my new black moleskine diary, but then I felt a bit silly at work having a diary with pom poms, I'm sure I'll find another use for them.

This Weekend...

Last week ended up being so busy (work trips away, more work and pet sitting), so this weekend was all about:

- sleep-ins
- practicing our French for no reason at all
- some serious house cleaning
- indulging in breakfast in the afternoon - poached eggs, smoked salmon and a berry/mint juice...yum!
- browsing antiques

Oh and of course music! I've been listening to rd's current favourite Laura Marling, it's pretty gorgeous!

Orla Kiely

I'm sure everyone has already seen the Orla Kiely for Target designs, they are sooooo gorgeous I am well and truly smitten!
Anyone in the US keen to do a little swap with me once they are released? I am more than happy to find an Australian treasure to send out in return!

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

I don't think life will ever be quite the same again after last night. I saw Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds and they were unbelievable, AMAZING, made live music something completely different to what I have ever experienced before!

I am in awe, there were times when rd and I looked at each other in disbelief. The Weeping Song was a rock and roll snarl, Red Right Hand brilliant, We Call Upon the Author manic, Hold Onto Yourself brilliant and Stagger Lee....well there are no words.

28 Things

The lovely Cheryl from Al Ain Notebook tagged me a little while ago with a "7 random things about me" meme. I was thinking about this and then decided that, as it is the start of a new year, I would mix it up a little and do a list of my 28 things for 2009 (I turn 28 this year- it seemed appropriate).

1. Be more organised - with everything from grocery shopping, to house cleaning and making sure there is time for all the things I would like to do.
2. Make a new music mix disc once every month.
3. Cook myself a proper dinner at least twice a week - macaroni cheese does not count!
4. Take lots and lots of photo's.
5. Leave work thoughts at work.
6. Save money.
7. Spend more quiet time with Rd.
8. Learn to drive a manual car.
9. Go swimming in the sea.
10. Get a watch to wear.
11. Go to a crochet class.
12. Take a proper holiday.
13. Exercise more - no more avoiding the hill walking home from work.
14. Have another market stall.
15. Complete a quilt.
16. Go camping.
17. Read more books.
18. No more nail biting.
19. Go see lots of live music.
20. Be creative.
21. Be positive.
22. Do more yoga.
23. Have friends over for dinner more often.
24. Be better at commenting on all the blogs I read.
25. Look at the dictionary more often - learn new words.
26. Go and see the nothofagus turning.
27. Finish a project before starting on a new one.
28. Be happy : )

Black and White

I’ve been eyeing off the black and white floor rugs on the Ikea website for a while now, a pointless exercise seeing as we don’t have an Ikea in our state! Then I found this gorgeous little shop selling a little black and white rug perfect for my hall. Needless to say I had to have it : ) I think it works brilliantly.

Back to Reality

Things are back to regular scheduling here at little glowing lights, I went to work yesterday and it was a killer! I was just getting into the swing of sleeping in a little, piecing my quilt (progress has been made!), morning teas, and walks in the afternoon….bliss, and then far too quickly reality has returned. Boo.

I did some etsy exploring during my break, you know the kind where one store leads to another and then you realise you’ve spent waay to much time on the computer. These are some of my current favourites:

empty bed photograph
bird plate
felted hearts

Polyvore (Yep I got on the bandwagon)

All Over Town by little glowing lights
I had a bit of a play around with Polyvore this evening while listening to Konk by the Kooks (great album by the way). The results were pretty typical me (I REALLY want that hat btw), maybe I should try something completely different next time, it's kinda good fun tho.

Happy 2009!
I hope everyone has a fantastic new years.
I'm not great with resolutions, but I'm hoping the new year will be a relaxing and enjoyable one.
