Seven things

Late last year the Captain from In Search of the Real Captain KK (whose blog I love visiting and who has a most enviable collection of marimekko homewares!! ) tagged me to share seven things about myself and then pass it on.
So better late than never here it is:

1. Clearly I am very bad at responding to tags, actually I can be slow at commenting too.... I really don’t mean to be at all, it’s often just that after a full day in front of the computer at work going home and sitting in front of a computer is not ideal. Instead I tend to read a lot of blogs on my iphone…and commenting on one of those is not so easy, I do read lots of blogs though!

2. I recently got new glasses…I feel like a cross between Where’s Wally and Harry Potter, they are twice the size of my old ones and black but I kinda like them. (I really can't see far without them at all!)

3. I really dislike having to get up in the mornings, my alarm usually goes off at least four times before I can get it together.

4. I will always remember the smell of going to the beach near my grandparent’s shack on a summer day as a child, a cross between salty air, pine trees and warm sand.

5. I can’t sing at all whatsoever but when I am alone in the car I have a tendency to, I would hate for anyone to ever hear me : )

6. I always thought I would move away from Hobart and live in Melbourne or some other big city, but over time have realised that it doesn’t get much better than living here. Plus Melbourne is only an hour away on a plane!

7. This song gets me every time, I saw them play it a few years ago and it was epic and beautiful and unforgettable. Not to mention perfectly crazy, if you've seen them you will know what I mean : )

I'd like to pass this on, if you would like to play, to:
Jane from Ill Seen Ill Said
Linnea from Linnea Paulina
Anna from Wsake and
Martina from six black dots

Tagged

I have been tagged by the kind and lovely Amanda to share seven things about me, so here they are:

1. I collect ribbon and tissue paper, I guess ribbon is quite normal but there's something about the colours of tissue paper that I love. I think it started from buying bits from dinosaur designs, all the paper they wrap purchases in matches the pieces you buy. I'm a sucker for colour.

2. Stripe tops – I have a definite thing for stripe tops at the moment, at last count I may have had seven… anyway I have been looking for the ‘one’ and last week took the plunge and ordered a Saint James one (you know the one Audrey Tautou in Coco Avant Chanel), I’m hoping this will end the search and my obsession.

3. I walk to work every morning and need this 25 minute one-on-one time with my ipod and the fresh air to wake up. If it’s raining or frosty and I have to catch the bus it feels like a part of my day is missing and end up a little cranky.

4. I’m clumsy, if you can drop it, bang into it or trip on it I will. It’s very frustrating, I’m completely uncoordinated.

5. I wish I had a cat of my own, I love house sitting for my parents when I get to spend time with Angus and Lola, they are such lovely beasts especially when they sneak onto my bed at night and moaw at me for a cuddle. It's one of my favourite things.

6. I watch the Mighty Boosh a lot, I love that everytime you get something a little different from it and it always makes me laugh, so does the IT Crowd.

7. I’m going through a stage where I want to change the style of my house a bit, but don’t know what I want or what I want to change. I’m stuck, but it’s interesting.

I’m passing the tag onto my new-to-blogging cousin Amelia, my real life friend Amanda, and anyone else who may like to join in.

Four Things

I kind of liked this tag that Cheryl, Martina and Fi did, so I’m going to have a go, feel free to join in too!

4 things I’m looking forward to:
*Seeing Handmade Nation on Saturday and visiting the Crafty exhibition
*My Diana Edelweiss arriving in the mail
*finding a new book to read – any suggestions?
*spring/summer (still months off I know, but I live in hope of some sunshine)

4 things I did yesterday:
* grocery shopping while listening to obscure radiohead tracks on my ipod (ie the bonus disc from the In Rainbows vinyl set – it’s really good)
* enjoyed some mint and green tea and an original glazed krispy kreme donut (purchased on the way back from Melbourne)
* had a little sleep in
* ironing (ugh yuk!)

4 things I wish I could do:
* stay on holidays for much much longer (while still getting paid of course!)
* play an instrument, maybe the drums! Something loud anyway.
* buy a house, but sadly not on the agenda for a while yet
* have a permanent job, being on a contract at a time like this is awful!

4 TV shows I watch:
* Masterchef – again I admit I am strangely hooked.
* Grand Designs
* Rage – on Saturday afternoons on abc2 when it’s the guest programmers (I no longer stay up till 3am watching as I once did). My favourite programmer was Malcolm McLaren, he played some fantastic stuff.
*Teachers – even though it is just repeats I still love it.

4 places I want to travel to:
* Tokyo
* Paris
*New York
*London – yep right now it’s the big four.

4 places I’ve lived – well I’ve only lived in the same state, so I’m changing this to 4 songs I love right now:
* Up on the Ladder - from above mentioned Radiohead cd
* The Trapeze Swinger – Iron and Wine
* Daniel – Bat for Lashes
* Back to the Start - Lily Allen

I've been tagged by the great blog Red Door Read to show a picture of my desk. So is my desk.. rather difficult to photograph sitting in the bay window. For so long I didn't have a desk due to lack of space and now I do it is one of my favourite spots. I made the bunting using some ribbon and paper from Snow and Graham, the lamp was a christmas present, the calendar and note pad are from here and the little card is from essimar.

28 Things

The lovely Cheryl from Al Ain Notebook tagged me a little while ago with a "7 random things about me" meme. I was thinking about this and then decided that, as it is the start of a new year, I would mix it up a little and do a list of my 28 things for 2009 (I turn 28 this year- it seemed appropriate).

1. Be more organised - with everything from grocery shopping, to house cleaning and making sure there is time for all the things I would like to do.
2. Make a new music mix disc once every month.
3. Cook myself a proper dinner at least twice a week - macaroni cheese does not count!
4. Take lots and lots of photo's.
5. Leave work thoughts at work.
6. Save money.
7. Spend more quiet time with Rd.
8. Learn to drive a manual car.
9. Go swimming in the sea.
10. Get a watch to wear.
11. Go to a crochet class.
12. Take a proper holiday.
13. Exercise more - no more avoiding the hill walking home from work.
14. Have another market stall.
15. Complete a quilt.
16. Go camping.
17. Read more books.
18. No more nail biting.
19. Go see lots of live music.
20. Be creative.
21. Be positive.
22. Do more yoga.
23. Have friends over for dinner more often.
24. Be better at commenting on all the blogs I read.
25. Look at the dictionary more often - learn new words.
26. Go and see the nothofagus turning.
27. Finish a project before starting on a new one.
28. Be happy : )

Tagged

It’s that time again friends, the tag. I’ve been tagged by Michelle (yay another Tasmanian!) and loved reading some more about her.
I’m passing this one on to everyone, ‘cause I am a stickybeak and love reading about other people.

So, six things about me:

1. I'm not brilliant at making decisions, in fact it is a struggle at times. I'd much prefer someone just tell me what I have to do, which is sad when I think about it. Case in point - SLR camera, I know what I want in terms of the body but when it come with which lens to buy with it etc, all too hard so I have just put it off. Decisions must be made!!

2. I feel sad that I couldn’t master the art of crochet. As much as I tried earlier this year and had grand plans and visions, purchasing this book, buying the wool for a blanket, it was to no avail. My skills are seriously lacking people.

3. When I was a child would spend hours at the kitchen table drawing, covering it in pens and paper, and my yellow textas would always run out first. It was my absolute favourite colour. Now if I was to draw like that again, I think it would be the green to run out first.

4. My favourite sweets are Oddfellow peppermints, and they have to be crunched and munched on! This seems to be a family trait because my granddad was an Oddfellow man, always having a stash in the cupboard and my mum loves them too. They aren’t just your average peppermint, and I’ve never really come across anyone else who likes them.

5. I love trivial pursuit and quizzes. Twice a month I go to a local quiz night with some friends. This has developed into quite a serious challenge because the questions are always so very random and are hardly ever about music (my pet topic) or current events or seemingly anything I know something about. We never get close to winning but it’s a lot of fun and a nice excuse to have a quiet beer on a Monday night.

6. My current neighbours drive me nuts! Living in a big old house divided into four flats means that I get to lie in bed most nights and listen to my neighbours music blaring at midnight. The funny thing is I don’t think I would mind if they were playing something I liked, but neighbours with bad taste = no fun.

Eight Things

I have been tagged by the lovely Ali, so here are eight things about me you probably don't know:

1. I desperately want to visit Japan, and hope to next year, ahh the sushi, the design, the cherry blossom, and possibly the Fuji Rock Festival (always has the best line-up!).

2. One day when I was probably about three I took my dolls for a walk in a little dolly pram I had, I walked around to the shop near my house while my mum was in the shower. I can still remember doing it and feeling quite independent.

3. I had a backstage pass, access all areas, for Radiohead in 1998 on the Ok Computer tour, but being 16 and rather shy could not bring myself to go back there. Instead I sent one of the sound engineers back with my cd sleeve and a card for them to sign, I have all their signatures in silver pen (Colin writes his name like a face, so cute!) but will always wonder what could have been.

4. I really really dislike having my picture taken, but I love taking photo's.

5. My perfume that I think I will always wear, and certainly have for the past several years is Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel, I love it so much.

6. Unfortunately I find it much easier to be certain about the things I dislike rather than the things I like, however I am trying to make a concerted effort these days to like more and dislike less.

7. Quote: "Tonight the moon is a mirrorball, light flickers from across the hall" U2 - If you Wear That Velvet Dress, always sticks in my mind, the way he sings it, the thought of a moon being a mirrorball, too perfect for me. (I am not a serious quote person clearly!)

8. I have 4,000 photo's on my computer and they aren't backed-up, eek, I am on to it this week. I am rather slack about some things.

I tag everyone! I'd love it if you join in.

Tagged

I have been tagged by the lovely Anna of Hey Bubbles.
This is my first tagging, the rules as everyone knows: 8 facts/habits about yourself.
ok here goes...

1. While I love music so very much I have absolutely no musical skills whatsoever.
When I was younger at school we would all play little xylophones and I would always end up taking bars off I didn't need, to make it as easy as possible....I had no hope with a recorder. My parents did get me a harmonica when I was little, that must have been a nightmare for them.

2. I have recently started writing all my thoughts on little sticky post it notes, and now have a growing pile, I do intend to write them in my journal or blog about them but I never seem to find the time

3. I am allergic to cats and horses. With Angus I pretty much decided I wasn't going to be allergic and for some reason I'm not, but get a terrible reaction with other cats. I feel sad about horses, they are so beautiful.

4. My all time favourite books are the Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo both by Alexandre Dumas, I like the adventure of these books, and the characters are so well written.

5. I have a thing for Swatch watches, I think I have had mmm six oh no maybe seven of them over the years since I was a child. I have had a pop swatch, a nice big chrono, several originals, and a scuba. I lost the chrono, it was my favourite, I am still looking out for my next Swatch watch.

6. I get crazy excited about Christmas decoration, I am not big on any other part of Christmas, but the decoration and the tree that is the best.

7. Two of the best gifts I have ever been given are boxes. The first was an aluminium box by a Tasmanian artist called Patrick Hall when I turned 18, it has a painting of a sheep called Haymish on the top, inside is a quote about his dilemma of wanting to be an individual but still wanting a sense of belonging. The second is a wooden box made from Tasmanian myrtle that rd made himself, it's beautiful and was made with love and inside is a shell bracelet collected and also made by rd.

8. Today I had my lunch in the park near work and had a not-so-great roll, it had gherkin in it which I don't like so threw for the seagulls to finish off.....you know what they wouldn't eat it either! Does anyone!

Now to pass this on, I don't think I can pick 8 people so how about: Laurab, Liss , MissK, Robin and Sarah
