This Weekend

This weekend I have been:

-catching up with friends for Grand Final day in the country and kicking the football, bewildering the poor cows, who no doubt had no idea what was going on (oh and watching the game as well)
- listening to the rain on the roof all night and day and being warm and cosy inside
- wanting it to be 2008 for this calendar and this diary
- watching new movies curled up under a blanket and drinking tea and eating chocolate
- hoping this book will be out soon after watching the fantastic tv series
- listening to the new Ben Harper cd
- going out for late lunch by the water and chatting away with rd, planning our holiday in 25 days, yes I am counting...

All in all a very enjoyable time, I hope you all had a wonderful weekend also.

Beside Myself

I am the most excited person on the planet right now, this is something I have been waiting for since I was 13 when I first heard Debut! Bjork is finally coming to Australia, finally finally! Playing on the steps of the Sydney Opera House in January next year. This is a dream come true! You know that list that's in the back of your head of the things you really want to do in your life, well seeing Bjork is just about the top of that list for me (along with Led Zeppelin and the Clash, not going to happen though). She is so beautiful and amazing and a musical genius, and yes I am obsessed, I have driven my family and friends crazy over the years playing her music non-stop. Even this blog is named in honor of her beautiful track Heirloom from Vespertine. Oh I just hope I will be able to get tickets!

There's a Hole in Our Town

Yesterday I experienced first hand the result of the fire on the weekend, and was blown away. Imagine once stood here a large three storey department store, this picture is after they had pulled what was left of the facade and steel girders down. The smell was unblievably acrid and strong, and there was a big mesh fence we were standing behind (today they have covered it so you can no longer look in). Everyone was taking photo's, it is one of those times when everyone feels the same, shocked and can't believe it. Especially as none of the buildings next door burnt though they are badly water damaged. Very luckily no one was injured, but our little town isn't going to be quite the same for some time.

A Little TV and Some Laughs

Hey there,

Hope your week is going well, mine has been going surprisingly fast. Finally I am starting to get into a rhythm at work and know what on earth I am supposed to be doing, it has been quite daunting. So a quiet night to relax tonight and have a bit of me time. Turning on the tv I was so excited to find that Red Dwarf was being replayed, I absolutely love this show, it makes me laugh a lot, just the crazy antics they get up to and the fantastic little one-liners, it's very clever. I had forgotten how much I enjoy it, leaving me with a big smile.

I do intend to get some drawing done, but slightly lacking the urge, it's a little difficult and not the way I want to feel. I did come across this print on Three Potato Four, which is a fantastic shop and has a lot of goodies I am sure I couldn't live without! I like the colours in this print

ok I am off to watch some live Feist!

This Weekend

Hey there,

well it has been a strange surreal weekend for me, and for a lot of Hobartians as well. Our one and only department store, an old building right in the centre of town burnt to the ground. We could see the giant flames and orange fireball from home, it was the most surreal moment. Living in such a small place, the effect this will have is pretty major, and just really very sad. So it has been an odd weekend, where you walk around and every now and then think about it and feel a bit shocked.

Besides that I did have a lovely day today, rd and I went for a super-great bike ride in the sunshine, wonderful to be out in the fresh air and getting some exercise. I have been a little tired and unwell this past week, so I am really looking forward to feeling better and getting a few crafty things done this week.
Hope everyone out there had a lovely weekend.

Tagged

I have been tagged by the lovely Anna of Hey Bubbles.
This is my first tagging, the rules as everyone knows: 8 facts/habits about yourself.
ok here goes...

1. While I love music so very much I have absolutely no musical skills whatsoever.
When I was younger at school we would all play little xylophones and I would always end up taking bars off I didn't need, to make it as easy as possible....I had no hope with a recorder. My parents did get me a harmonica when I was little, that must have been a nightmare for them.

2. I have recently started writing all my thoughts on little sticky post it notes, and now have a growing pile, I do intend to write them in my journal or blog about them but I never seem to find the time

3. I am allergic to cats and horses. With Angus I pretty much decided I wasn't going to be allergic and for some reason I'm not, but get a terrible reaction with other cats. I feel sad about horses, they are so beautiful.

4. My all time favourite books are the Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo both by Alexandre Dumas, I like the adventure of these books, and the characters are so well written.

5. I have a thing for Swatch watches, I think I have had mmm six oh no maybe seven of them over the years since I was a child. I have had a pop swatch, a nice big chrono, several originals, and a scuba. I lost the chrono, it was my favourite, I am still looking out for my next Swatch watch.

6. I get crazy excited about Christmas decoration, I am not big on any other part of Christmas, but the decoration and the tree that is the best.

7. Two of the best gifts I have ever been given are boxes. The first was an aluminium box by a Tasmanian artist called Patrick Hall when I turned 18, it has a painting of a sheep called Haymish on the top, inside is a quote about his dilemma of wanting to be an individual but still wanting a sense of belonging. The second is a wooden box made from Tasmanian myrtle that rd made himself, it's beautiful and was made with love and inside is a shell bracelet collected and also made by rd.

8. Today I had my lunch in the park near work and had a not-so-great roll, it had gherkin in it which I don't like so threw for the seagulls to finish off.....you know what they wouldn't eat it either! Does anyone!

Now to pass this on, I don't think I can pick 8 people so how about: Laurab, Liss , MissK, Robin and Sarah

Monday-itis

Hi there,

I have a severe case of monday-itis today, it's been a long slow day, and to be honest I am very glad it is almost done with. Bring on a better tuesday. It's not all bad really, the little grey kitten up the tree makes me smile, being a little sticky beak and needing to know everything that is going on in his backyard. I made some experimental banana and date muffins and they turned out pretty good, and my tickets to see Klaxons in october turned up, after a little hiccup with Ticketek (very frustrating) but now it's happening and I can't wait. Have a great week out there.
